Are you a procrastinator by nature? While most of the world might call procrastinators lazy, new research proves that people who delay completing tasks aren’t lazy at all—and can really get plenty done. Suffer from a lack of motivation when it comes to work? Here are a few pointers to help you through your lower motivation spells the next time the procrastination bug bites:
Procrastinate on purpose
Instead of letting your mind wander aimlessly, set aside a chunk of time specifically to brainstorm a project or a problem you’re facing. Make sure you don’t have a to-do list that requires checking off—use your procrastination time strictly for daydreaming. When time’s up, get productive.
Start small when you’re stuck
If you’re knee deep in a procrastination quagmire and your looming project seems too big to tackle, pick a very small problem to solve and start there. Answer an email, return a phone call or research a specific question to get yourself moving again. Huge projects that you find yourself avoiding can be overcome little by little.
