If the 9-5 has you bursting at the seams to go crazy, don’t fight it! Modern life has us conditioned to be polite, stand in queues like good boys and girls and to never make a scene or bring attention to ourselves. In fact, for the most part, as adults, we’re taught that it’s better to fit in than to ever stand out.
But, believe it or not, you’ve got an inner wild child that begs for a little freedom now and then and letting her (or him!) out can mean more fun and more creativity. Ready to rock this Christmas? Here are three things you can do to release yourself:
1. Get messy
With paint, collage, paper maiche, or any other sort of project that involves getting yourself (and your surroundings) covered in glue, glitter or any other creative material. Seriously. Don’t clean as you go, just go. Create something wonderful or comically juvenile. Just get messy.
2. Make a lot of noise
We’re so quiet as adults. We wait for conversation pauses before speaking; we lower our voices indoors like good adults. But when you’re ready to let your inner wild child out, it’s time to make noise. It could be a night at the karaoke club with your friends or even wailing out a sing along to your favorite YouTube video—whatever you choose, be loud and don’t worry about embarrassing yourself.
3. Rock a loud accessory
Greys, charcoals and navy colored professional wear is pretty standard in offices around the world, we get that. But what about going wild with an orange pair of ballet flats or a spiked metal cuff bracelet? Your inner wild child doesn’t want to get you ostracised from the work world, but she does want you to remember who you were before the corner office and health benefits. Find a way to sneak “you” into your style more often and make your inner wild child happy.
